WATCH A TESLA MODEL S GET STRETCHED INTO THE WORLD'S FIRST TESLA LIMO
Are you a fan of Tesla and limousines? Let us introduce you to the world’s first Tesla Model S stretch limo by Big Limos. The Tesla Model S is already a pretty long car, but this one has been stretched an extra 18 feet (5.5 meters) to accommodate up to 12 passengers.
The conversion process isn’t as simple as just cutting the car in half and welding on an extension, though. The Tesla’s aluminum body needs to be carefully cut so that it can be stretched without affecting the structural integrity of the car. The process takes around six weeks and costs $100,000.
Big Limos, a California-based limousine company, says it is the first to offer a Tesla Model S stretch limo. The car was cut in half and a 5.5-meter extension added in the middle, allowing it to seat 12 people instead of five.
The process costs $100,000 and takes six weeks. Tesla did not respond to a request for comment on whether it authorized the modification.
Limousines are a fairly small market, and it isn’t worth it for them to spin up a production line just for that. Limos are built by smaller coach builders. They buy production cars, cut them in half, and insert a middle section to stretch them out. If you google “limousine builders”, you will come up with a few examples of these companies. Tesla is not. This is especially true for Tesla - they are scrambling to get every single car out the door.
